The Castelli Free Aero Race 4 Bib-short is the result of more than a decade of research in order to provide the fastest bib-short for professional racers such as Geraint Thomas and Chris Froome who have won World Tours and other championships racing in Castelli cycling clothing. In order to meet the pro-riders demands, Castelli engineers have researched fabrics and construction by using wind-tunnel testing and pro rider input to make their already fast race bib-shorts more comfortable and even faster. Rider demands to shed weight pushed the designers to make the Aero Race Bib-shorts even lighter while not compromising its performance enhancing features. The performance level fabrics and their locations have been tweaked for that extra advantage. The Vortex dimpled fabric pulls in air so a rider slips through the wind with no clothing getting in the way. As a result, drag is decreased to make a cyclist faster and air circulates to keep him dry despite heavy sweating. The smooth Forza fabric on the inner leg doesn’t rub against the seat making the bib-shorts durable. The strip meshed bib-straps are both lighter and more comfortable while still keeping the shorts comfortably in place. On the front, a double V construction cuts down on the amount of material used so weight is reduced. The V construction keeps the speed suit in place without putting too much pressure to the stomach. Castelli’s Progetto X² Air Seamless seat pad is renowned for its protection, softness and lean construction. The Progetto is the fastest, most comfortable chamois pad raced in by Castelli’s sponsored pro-riders. The racers demanded maximum protection without unnecessary padding interfering with the pedal stroke. Extra padding has been added only where necessary. Perforated viscous padding is placed under the highly sensitive ischial and perineum pressure areas to maintain comfort on the long rides that are required to heighten a rider’s performance. The padding gradually thins where bulk is unnecessary so as to minimize weight and allow for an efficient pedal stroke. In order to keep a rider’s seat area dry, the seat pad is also well ventilated.
