Castelli Elemento Lite Jacket

While designed for a mountain biker, the features of the Castelli Elemento Lite Jacket were based off ski-jackets that require good insulation but total breathability. The insulation is found in the mid-layer which is between the woven inner layer that circulates air and the wind-blocking outer layer. The woven inner layer has enough permeability to allow air to get into the jacket and evaporate moisture. Sweat is inevitable when you are riding at a high intensity on a mountain bike which makes this feature invaluable to a rider’s comfort and his ability to continue to perform. The mid-layer is a puffy insulation layer made in polypropylene which insulates but is still incredibly lightweight (specific gravity 0.6 g). Since it is combined with the inner moisture absorbing layer and outer layer that repels water, the mid-layer won’t get laden with body sweat or rain. The fabrics have limited stretch so the Lite Jacket fits slightly looser than a typical race jacket. This design allows complete freedom of movement which is helpful when riding technical trails. The jacket’s versatility is reflected in the inner waist closure that, if closed, will block out wind and if opened, will allow extra air in for cooling and drying. Three easy to access rear pockets provide plenty of space for the food you need to stay energized on long winter training rides.
